Using drone technology in building and land surveying

Building surveys, maintenance inspections and schedules of condition on commercial and industrial property should all include a thorough inspection of the roof and high-level fabric of the building.

If you’re not looking at the roof then you’re failing to take account of a significant part of the building that could be in disrepair and could cost a lot of money to put right. This is especially crucial for schedule of condition surveys and dilapidations inspections where all too often the roofs and gutters are omitted – with potential legal implications further down the line.

Using drone technology to access these parts of the building is often easy and has a number of advantages over cherry-pickers; including full, unhindered coverage of the roof and access to buildings surrounded by soft ground etc. that trucks can’t reach.

Not only can we provide the aerial shots and videos of your buildings and assets, we can also provide the reports and technical advice through our sister consultancy – Lynwoods: another complete in-house solution saving you time and money.

If you’re looking for a roof survey, if you’re looking for a thorough and complete inspection and the fullest impression of how your asset stands then don’t just hire a drone operator; hire a team that knows what it’s looking for.

Drone technology is bringing new advantages to the surveying industries:

Greater Access and Reach

Our drone technology can reach inner roof slopes, box gutters, narrow spaces, high or dangerous parts of buildings and buildings surrounded by soft ground or dense vegetation or bodies of water etc. that conventional lifts and access platforms simply cannot reach.

Faster Deployment

Set-up and deployment of drones takes a couple of minutes and drones can be easily moved around the site without wasting time having to move and reposition bulky equipment.

Environmental Benefits

Drones are battery-operated; meaning no fossil fuel engines and no fumes. Deploying drones has several health and safety benefits: minimising risks to surveyors by keeping everybody safely on the ground.

Pre-Programmed Flights

We can pre-programme our drone in autopilot way-point mode to fly in various, fully editable patterns – ideal for surveying applications where smooth and structured sequences are required and for photogrammetry applications.
